GMAT v GRE- What’s the Difference?

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test that is a prerequisite for getting admission into an MBA program. Some universities also accept the GRE test in lieu of the GMAT but GMAT remains the most widely accepted test for gaining acceptance into a top business school. The test is designed to assess the takers analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills. The GMAT is conducted year-round and the cost to take the test is US $250. The exam is scored out of a total of 800.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is also a standardized test that is a requirement for getting admission into most graduate schools. The exam helps students get into Masters and PhD programs in various streams like- sciences, arts and business. The GRE is a computer based test and takers are scored out of a total of 340. The 340 is divided into a 130-170 mark Verbal Section and a 130-170 Quantitative Section. A writing section is also a part of the test, which is evaluated on bands ranging from 0 to 6. It costs US $185 to take the test once.

Also, two 35-minute Quantitative Reasoning sections. Additionally, there is also a 30-35 minute experimental section that could either be math or verbal.

The GMAT, on the other hand, comprises a 30 minute Analytical section where the student writes one essay, a 30 minute Integrated Reasoning section, a 75 minute long Quantitative section, and a 75 minute Verbal section.
